CRISIS RESOURCES

If you or someone you know is in crisis and in need of immediate help, here are some resources:

SUICIDE IN MINNESOTA

NAMI Minnesota’s suicide awareness programing is funded through a grant from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and individual donations. To learn more about statewide suicide awareness efforts at MDH, visit their website. To learn more about the Minnesota State Suicide Prevention Plan visit here.

Suicide is the eighth leading cause of death for Minnesotans and tenth nationally. In 2019, 830 Minnesotans died by suicide. From 1999-2017, suicide deaths steadily increased by 53 percent.

Suicides are not experienced equally across age groups, genders, or geography in Minnesota. Per 100,000 Minnesotans, 4.8 women and 21.6 men died by suicide in 2018. American Indians have the highest rate of death by suicide out of all races/ethnicities – almost double the national average. For a breakdown of more statistics, click here.

Minnesota Suicide Prevention Trainer Network

The MSPTN was developed in 2022 as a tool for certified mental health and suicide prevention program trainers to network, share resources, find support, build skills, and connect with other trainers. The network continues to grow and expand as we strive to connect more Minnesotans with the mental health training and support they need for themselves and their communities.

Go to the MSPTN website for suicide prevention and mental health training and resources in Minnesota. www.preventsuicidemn.org

The group meets quarterly (virtually) and there is no cost to join. If you are interested in joining the MSPTN, please register HERE.

For questions or more information about the MSPTN, please contact the Training Support Specialist, Cassandra Linkenmeyer, at clinkenmeyer@namimn.org
